Tucked midway between Torquay and Brixham on the English Riviera, Paignton is known for its beautiful award-winning sandy beaches, first-class attractions and pretty harbour.
Mixing up the nostalgic with the modern, the resort is all about fun, with life centring on the seafront the iconic Victorian pier and the expanse of green parkland bordering the sea.
Set in beautiful grounds, The Palace Hotel is situated in a desirable location on Paignton’s Esplanade and directly opposite the seafront with Paignton town centre only a short walk away.
After an invigorating walk along the seafront; a busy day sightseeing or a relaxing afternoon away from everyday life, there’s nothing quite like retiring to your sumptuous room where you can unwind – many of rooms enjoy uninterrupted panoramic sea views looking out across the bay. All rooms include a colour television, hairdryer, trouser press and tea and coffee making facilities.
Today we’ll visit the pretty little town of St Marychurch, with a pedestrianised centre that’s a real change from the usual high street.
One of the main attractions of St Marychurch is Bygones, an Aladdin’s Cave of delights that brings Britain’s past to life. It has lots of independently owned boutiques and family-run businesses and its unique personality is why so many people come back year after year.
Our stop this morning will be to Princetown, the highest village within Dartmoor National Park, and just about at its heart. It is the home of Dartmoor Prison, once incarcerating category ‘A’ criminals such as the Cray brothers. But Princetown is now known for a good many other, more amenable assets.
Then we’ll go onto Tavistock – renowned for its variety of unique shops that will make you never want to leave this beautiful market town.
